Online Video Converter: 12 Days of Techmas, Day 6

Audio and video formats are a pain in the neck. It happens too often that we find a great audio or video clip, but then when we try to do something with it (upload to Moodle, email, play on a computer, download, or whatever), the audio or video format is wrong and it doesn't work. There are downloadable programs for converting files, but they are usually complicated and hard to use.

That's why I really like http://convert-video-online.com/ It is super simple. You upload an audio or file (or import it from your Google Drive), choose the format, and click Convert. It spends a few minutes processing, and then downloads the converted file to your computer. Nice and easy.

It's not super fast, since it has to upload the file, process it, and then download the conversion; however, it's free, it's very reliable (in that the conversions nearly always work), and it's easy. Also, it's in the Chrome store and works as a Chrome app.

I recommend this online app to teachers and students if they ever need to do audio or video conversions.

The combination of whiteboards, projectors, and document cameras is more powerful than many teachers realize. In the hectic rush of our everyday teaching, it's too easy to fall back on using these powerhouse tools as little more than digital overhead projectors.  So, here's what I call some "mini-tricks" to get more out of your whiteboard setup! Taking Your Google Data With You Before You Graduate:   Google Takeout Students who use Google Apps in school can amass a large number of docs, presentations, etc, representing a huge amount of academic work. Because these docs are stored in the cloud, you could lose them when your school deactivates your account after you graduate.  Fear not! Google Takeout lets you download and save all of the Google Drive and Gmail data that your created when you were in school. Go to https://www.google.com/settings/takeout . If prompted, sign in with your school Google Account. . Scroll down and turn OFF the data that you do NOT need to save. This is up to you. You know best which services you used and need to archive. NOTE: There are limits to the number of times you can archive your data, so choose wisely the first time. Click Next .
